India’s national security advisor Shivshanker Menon has announced at a media conference in Tamil Nadu yesterday that India ” was working with the Sri Lankan government both in terms of resettlement of displaced people and also regarding devolution of power in the planned political arrangement that will satisfy all the communities in Sri Lanka.” 

Menon  has said, after a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Chennai yesterday that India was helping Sri Lanka in tresettlement and the rehabilitation of displaced Tamils.

He said he had assured the Chief Minister that the central government would continue to do whatever it could to help iron out  a solution acceptable to all the communities.

“The Indian government is  holding regular talks with Sri Lanka on these subjects and ” we insist the Sri Lankan government must resettle the Tamils in the same places in which they lived prior to the ir being displaced since the war broke out. We have insisted that they get adequate devolvement of powers,” Menon added.

He said the Chief Minister Karunanidhi expressed concern over the Indian fishermen detained in Sri Lanka and their condition.
