Police initiated investigations into the death of a mother of one child from the Bowelawatte area in Kandy who is said to have undergone an illegal abortion resulting in severe internal bleeding and later admitted to the Kandy General Hospital in a serious condition.
After getting an abortion done at an illegal abortion clinic, the victim had been admitted with severe internal bleeding but had died at the hospital, police said.
Although the patient had been warded in a serious condition after the abortion, reports said she had been undergoing treatment for fever in a general ward until she had been transferred to the Maternity Ward where she had died.
Upon receiving the report from the Kandy hospital police post, the Head Quarters Police started their investigations to arrest the person running the abortion clinic.
