The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment said yesterday police personnel island-wide were being trained to investigate and arrest persons involved in illegal foreign employment recruitment agencies.
Foreign Employment Bureau, Chairman, Kingsely Ranawaka said that since amendments were made to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act in October 2009 allowing the police to investigate illegal agencies, some 80 illegitimate employment agencies have been uncovered.
“We also will be sending circulars to all police stations with a list of all the valid recruitment agencies in the island. This will further speed up the process,” Ranawaka said.
Last week the investigative unit of the Foreign Employment Bureau had uncovered five illegal recruitment agencies in Welimada, Nuwara Eliya, Maradana and Abanpola.
