The least number of bus accidents this year has been reported from Ceylon Transport Board (CTB), said the Transport Minister Kumara Welgama yesterday.
Addressing a gathering of newly appointed bus drivers and conductors, Minister Welgama said that this was because the drivers and conductors of CTB are more disciplined and accountable than their counterparts in the private bus sector.
“People don’t think twice before they get into a CTB bus. We have built up confidence in people that we do a safe job. We are ahead of the private bus employees when it comes to discipline,” said the minister.
The minister said that the drivers will be put for short distance trips till they gain experience of three years.
Also, the Ministry is planning to pay the leases of the CTB buses from the money, the CTB earns.“The daily income of the CTB is Rs.45-48 million. I have confidence that we can settle our vehicle leases with our income.
