With UNP parliamentarian Mohanlal Grero yesterday announcing his decision to vote with the government for the budget, the party’s reformist camp livewire and Moneragala District parliamentarian Ranjith Maddumabandara said it was a big setback for the Grand Old Party.
He said his group had been demanding urgent reforms in the party as valuable people like Grero continued to leave because of the rot that had set in the party.
Maddumabandara who was nominated and seconded for the party’s post of National Organiser, was deprived of that position by the Wickremesinghe camp. He said they still hoped that sanity would prevail to turn the party around and get on the winning track.
He also praised the enormous service rendered to the party by Grero.
