A ‘firewall’ system has been installed by Sri Lanka telecom to bloc web sites says a very reliable source. This has been carried out as a combined operation by the government through Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) and a group of Chinese intelligence experts who have been got down to develop a regulatory framework for advanced telecom technology known as next generation networks (NGN).
The ‘firewall’ system installed with the Chinese experts would clamp down on web news portals states this source. World Bank had warned the government of Sri Lanka not to use its Institutional Development Fund for the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka for any censorship of the net.
The ”Firewall’ system would be used to bloc ’SLT ISP’ web sites that access the net through Sri Lanka Telecom.
