Sri Lanka’s business community says that since political stability has been established in the country with the re-election of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to a second term, the government should now present a comprehensive economic plan to develop the country.
In an interview with Sri Lanka broadcasting corporation, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce Lal de Alwis said the President has the ability to carry Sri Lanka forward to achieve status similar to countries such as Singapore and Malaysia and everyone in the country should extend their support to the government.
Mr. de Alwis pointed out that large scale investors from many countries including China and the U.S. are willing to invest in Sri Lanka and there are opportunities to bring more tourists to the country. He expressed hope that Sri Lanka would be able to secure the temporarily suspended GSP+ facility this year.
The Chairman assured the private sector’s fullest corporation to the government in its efforts to develop the economy and the government should present an economic plan for the wellbeing of the country after the general election.(colombopage)
